The wait for Skoda’s refreshed compact SUV now has a clear end date. The Czech automaker has confirmed that the updated 2026 Skoda Kushaq facelift will make its official debut in India this January. This mid-life refresh promises more than just a nip and tuck, aiming to sharpen the Kushaq’s appeal in the fiercely competitive segment that includes rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Tata Curvv.
Spy shots circulating for months have given enthusiasts a solid idea of the visual evolution. The front end receives the most attention, featuring a more pronounced grille with sleek vertical slats. The headlamps appear redesigned and are likely to integrate a connected LED Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) strip, taking inspiration from Skoda’s larger models like the Kodiaq. Further down, the bumper and air dam are reshaped for a bolder stance.
From the side, the silhouette remains familiar but will roll on new 17-inch alloy wheels with a matte black finish. At the rear, expect a cleaner look with slimmer, connected LED tail lamps replacing the current setup. While the overall design language stays true to the original, these updates give the Kushaq a more contemporary and sophisticated road presence.
A Cabin Geared for the Modern Driver
Though official interior images are yet to be released, the feature list is where the Kushaq facelift takes a significant leap. A panoramic sunroof, spotted in test mules, is almost a certainty. The biggest news, however, comes from the safety suite. Former Skoda India Brand Director Petr Janeba confirmed that Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) will be introduced with this facelift. This technology, already present in rivals like the Honda Elevate and MG Astor, includes features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist for semi-autonomous driving capability.
Adding to this is an expected 360-degree camera for easier maneuvering. Crucially, Skoda has committed to offering six airbags as standard across all variants, a move that aligns with its strong safety record—the facelifted model has already secured a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.
Refined Powertrains and a Future Transmission Shift
Under the hood, the trusted TSI engine lineup continues but with a notable future update. The entry and mid variants will carry the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine (113 bhp, 178 Nm), paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The performance-oriented 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine (148 bhp, 250 Nm) will continue to be offered exclusively with a 7-speed DSG automatic.
Looking ahead, industry reports suggest Skoda plans to replace the current 6-speed automatic with a more advanced 8-speed (AQ300) torque converter unit for the 1.0L engine. This change may not be immediate at launch but is expected to be implemented by mid-2026, promising smoother shifts and potentially better fuel efficiency.
Set for a January 2026 launch, the Kushaq facelift is Skoda’s strategic move to reinvigorate its popular offering. By packing in premium features like ADAS and a panoramic sunroof while enhancing its safety credentials and design, it aims to not just keep pace but set a new benchmark in one of India’s most hotly contested SUV segments.
