TVS Motor Company recently teased what seems to be an exciting addition to the electric scooter market in Indonesia. The TVS M1-S, a sporty maxi-style electric scooter, showcases a power-packed feature set and sleek design tailored to urban commuters and occasional longer rides. This highly anticipated release comes as a product of TVS Motor’s collaboration with ION Mobility, a Singapore-based EV startup that has been making waves in the Indonesian electric two-wheeler market.
Robust Range and Smart Features
The TVS M1-S boasts an outstanding claimed range of 150 km on a full charge, making it ideal for everyday city commutes and weekend adventures. Adding to its practicality, the scooter is equipped with 26 liters of under-seat storage, perfect for carrying essentials.
Enhancing the riding experience is a seven-inch color display, complete with connectivity features, multiple ride modes, and a reverse mode. The inclusion of twin LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs ensures superb visibility, while the keyless operation adds a layer of convenience for daily use.
Performance That Stands Out
Underneath its sleek exterior, the TVS M1-S houses a powerful electric motor capable of delivering a peak output of 12.5 kW and 45 Nm of torque. This enables the scooter to zip from 0 to 50 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 105 km/h. Such performance places the M1-S among the top-performing electric scooters in its segment.
Battery configurations range from 3.5 kWh to 5.5 kWh, with a balanced 4.3 kWh option offering an optimal mix of performance and charging time. Utilizing a 72V lithium-ion NMC battery, the scooter can charge fully in under three hours through a standard two-pin wall plug. These features ensure quick, hassle-free charging, making it convenient for busy urban lifestyles.
Built for Durability and Comfort
With a wheelbase of 1,350 mm, a manageable weight of 152 kg, and a comfortable seat height of 765 mm, the M1-S ensures an accessible and comfortable ride for a wide range of riders. It rides on sturdy 14-inch wheels with wide 110/70 and 120/70 tires on the front and rear, respectively, enhancing stability and grip.
Suspension duties are managed by telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers with preload adjustability at the rear, ensuring smooth performance even on uneven roads. The inclusion of disc brakes on both wheels, combined with a Combi Brake System, adds an additional layer of safety to its impressive profile.
Will the TVS M1-S Come to India?
The teaser suggests that the TVS M1-S is essentially a rebadged version of the Ion M1-S, which has already garnered attention in the EV market. Given TVS’s success in the electric scooter segment with the iQube in India, it will be interesting to see if the M1-S is eventually introduced to Indian customers.
Currently, TVS is actively growing its presence in Indonesia, alongside its offerings such as the Ntorq 125, Dazz, Ronin, and a strong lineup of utility-focused three-wheelers. The introduction of the M1-S marks yet another step forward in the company’s global EV strategy.
