Citroen India has launched the new Basalt X range, a significant update to its coupe-SUV offering, with introductory prices beginning at ₹7.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The highlight of this launch isn’t just the revised styling or upgraded interior, but the introduction of CARA, a locally developed intelligent in-car assistant poised for global use. This move signals a major step in the brand’s “Citroen India 2.0” strategy, aiming to blend advanced technology with premium comfort.
The Basalt X retains its distinctive coupe-SUV silhouette but receives several premium interior upgrades designed to elevate the cabin experience. The updates include soft-touch leatherette trim accented with gold stitching, ventilated front seats for added comfort, and new ambient lighting. Dominating the dashboard is a new 26 cm bezel-less touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by a digital driver display of the same size, creating a modern and connected cockpit.

Safety has also been a key focus for Citroen. The Basalt X now comes equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and hill-hold assist as standard across all variants. For enhanced convenience and safety, features like a 360-degree camera system with seven different viewing modes and cruise control with a speed limiter are also part of the package.
Under the hood, the Basalt X continues with its proven petrol engine options. The 1.2L turbocharged unit delivers 110 PS of power and 205 Nm of torque, available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. A naturally aspirated 1.2L engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission is also offered for those seeking a different driving dynamic.

The true innovation, however, is CARA. Described as India’s first intelligent in-car companion, it moves far beyond typical voice command systems. CARA is designed to understand natural language, including tone and context. For example, if a driver says, “I’m tired,” the system can proactively suggest nearby rest stops. It is deeply integrated with the vehicle’s functions, allowing it to monitor tyre pressure and control features like the air conditioning and door locks. It also manages navigation, calls, and entertainment while providing real-time updates on flights, weather, and even cricket scores. Critically, it handles safety with voice-activated SOS, emergency alerts, and crash response. With support for 52 Indian and international languages, CARA can even switch between languages mid-conversation.
Shailesh Hazela, CEO & MD of Stellantis India, commented on the launch, stating, “India is at the heart of Stellantis’ global vision, and today’s launch marks a defining moment for Citroën India 2.0. With the Basalt X, we are proud to introduce CARA, India’s first intelligent in-car companion—conceived, engineered, and launched in India.” He added that the Basalt X is a “bold step forward” that strengthens Citroen’s portfolio.
The top-end Basalt X variant, which includes the CARA system complimentary for initial bookings, is priced from ₹12.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Customer deliveries for this model are scheduled to begin ahead of the festive season.
