Tesla Model Y Long Range Gets Major Range Boost in India

Tesla Model Y Long Range

In a quiet but significant move, Tesla has enhanced the top-tier Model Y Long Range in India, giving it a more powerful battery and, crucially, more driving range. This update arrives mere months after the electric SUV’s grand debut in the country.

The key change is under the floor. Tesla has replaced the Long Range RWD variant’s original 78.1kWh battery pack with a substantially larger 84.2kWh unit. This translates directly to more kilometres between charges. The official WLTP-certified range has jumped from 621 km to an impressive 661 km, giving owners an extra 39 kilometres of freedom on a full charge.

For those weighing their options, the more affordable Standard Range RWD variant remains unchanged. It continues with its 64kWh battery, which offers a 500km WLTP range, and its performance specifications are unaltered.

Performance and Pricing Hold Steady

What’s remarkable is that this meaningful upgrade comes at no extra cost. Tesla has held the line on pricing, a strategic decision that significantly boosts the car’s value proposition. The Standard RWD Model Y remains priced at ₹59.89 lakh, while the newly enhanced Long Range RWD variant continues at ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

Despite the new, larger battery, the driving character of the Long Range Model Y remains as spirited as ever. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is still achieved in a brisk 5.6 seconds, with power being sent to the rear wheels. Beyond the powertrain update, the Model Y’s design is untouched. It keeps its sleek, crossover silhouette and the minimalist, screen-focused interior that has become a Tesla hallmark.

This strategic enhancement solidifies the Model Y Long Range’s position in the Indian market. For prospective buyers in a country where charging infrastructure is still developing, real-world range is a top priority. By offering more range without a price hike, Tesla has made one of its most practical vehicles even more compelling, directly addressing a key concern for Indian EV adopters and strengthening its foothold in the premium electric segment.
