Land Rover Discovery Gemini & Tempest Editions Launched in India

Land Rover Discovery Gemini & Tempest Editions

In a move to refresh its premium SUV lineup, Land Rover has unveiled two new special editions for the Indian market: the Discovery Gemini and the more luxurious Discovery Tempest. Priced at ₹1.26 crore and ₹1.39 crore (ex-showroom) respectively, these models replace the previous S and Metropolitan trims, offering a clearer choice for buyers seeking a blend of sophistication and capability.

More than just a new trim level, these editions are a celebration of the Discovery’s legacy, with their names drawn directly from the brand’s archives. The “Gemini” was the internal codename for the very first Discovery launched in 1989, while “Tempest” harkens back to the second-generation model. This thoughtful naming underscores a model line with over three decades of heritage.

Gemini vs. Tempest

The positioning is clear: the Discovery Gemini Edition serves as the stylish and accessible entry point. It establishes its presence with a gloss black roof, a silver-accented grille, and commanding 21-inch silver alloy wheels. It’s available in a range of classic colours, with the vibrant Sedona Red standing out as a particularly bold choice.

Sitting above it, the Discovery Tempest Edition takes luxury up a notch. It’s impossible to miss with its exclusive dual-tone 22-inch wheels finished in Petra Copper, complemented by matching copper accents on the roof. The upscale feel continues with a distinctive Graphite Atlas grille, unique door sill etchings, and custom puddle lamp projections that announce the vehicle’s presence before you even step inside.

A Cabin Built for Comfort and Capability

Inside, both editions share a modern, digital cockpit centered around a 12.3-inch driver display and a sleek, floating 11.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. Standard amenities ensure a premium experience for all occupants, including a Meridian sound system, three-zone climate control, and a practical 360-degree camera for navigating tight spaces.

Where they differ is in the details of luxury. The Gemini Edition offers sophisticated leatherette or fabric upholstery in Light Oyster and Ebony themes. The Tempest Edition, however, caters to the connoisseur with added indulgences like a heads-up display, a more powerful 14-speaker Meridian surround sound system, four-zone climate control, and the convenience of power-folding third-row seats.

Uncompromised Performance

Land Rover hasn’t tinkered with the proven heart of the Discovery. Both special editions are powered by a robust 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine, enhanced with mild-hybrid technology for improved responsiveness and efficiency. This powertrain delivers a substantial 345bhp and 700Nm of torque, channeled to all four wheels through a smooth nine-speed automatic transmission.

This setup enables the substantial SUV to sprint from 0-100 km/h in a brisk 6.3 seconds. More importantly, it retains the brand’s legendary all-terrain prowess, ensuring it’s as confident on a mountain trail as it is on a city highway. True to its rugged roots, it maintains an impressive 3,500kg towing capacity.

Land Rover has positioned these editions as the perfect companions for “luxurious road trips,” even offering curated accessory packs tailored for Beach Days, Road Trips, and Snow Days. By introducing the Gemini and Tempest, Land Rover has not only simplified its Discovery range for India but has also infused it with a stronger, more defined identity that honors its past while firmly looking toward the future.
