Mahindra & Mahindra is shifting into high gear, preparing a wave of new premium SUVs set to hit Indian roads between 2026 and 2027. The automaker’s strategy is a multi-pronged assault, embracing internal combustion (ICE), hybrid, and all-electric powertrains to cater to every segment of the market. With test mules already being spotted across the country, the future of Mahindra’s SUV portfolio is taking shape.
The Revamped XUV700

Leading the charge in early 2026 will be the updated Mahindra XUV700. This isn’t just a minor nip-and-tuck; it’s a comprehensive design and technology upgrade. The exterior will feature sharper styling with revised bumpers, sleeker headlamps, and fresh alloy wheels, while retaining its signature flush-fitting door handles.
The real transformation, however, will happen inside the cabin. Mahindra is elevating the interior to new levels of luxury and tech. Drivers can expect a cockpit dominated by a sophisticated triple-screen setup. This will seamlessly integrate a larger infotainment touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a dedicated screen for the passenger—a feature once reserved for luxury vehicles. While the interior gets a major overhaul, the powerful and trusted petrol and diesel engine options are expected to carry over, ensuring proven performance remains a key selling point.
The Electric Revolution Gains Momentum

Following the XUV700 update, Mahindra’s dedicated EV arm will see significant action. The most anticipated model is the XUV.e8, an all-electric, three-row SUV that is essentially the battery-electric version of the XUV700. Currently in its final testing phase, it could launch as soon as next year. It will share the proportions of its ICE sibling but will be instantly recognizable as an EV thanks to a sealed grille, a smoother front end, and distinctive LED lighting.
The interior is also set for a radical departure, drawing heavily from Mahindra’s new “born-electric” philosophy with a strong emphasis on connected car technology and digital interfaces.
Further expanding the electric portfolio, Mahindra is also working on more adventurous variants. The BE Rall-E is rumored to be a rugged, off-road-ready version of the stylish BE 05 (concept name: BE 05). Expect enhanced suspension, reinforced body cladding, and the same potent electric powertrain, but tuned for trail conquest.
Thar EV and Beyond

The excitement doesn’t stop there. Mahindra’s iconic lifestyle off-roaders are also going electric. The recent Thar EV concept gave us a concrete preview of a practical five-door, zero-emission Thar. Even more significant is the news that an electric Scorpio is under serious consideration, likely based on the striking Vision S concept.
Both these groundbreaking models are expected to be built on Mahindra’s brand-new INGLO platform, which is slated for production by 2027. This dedicated EV architecture will form the foundation for a new generation of upmarket, capable electric SUVs from the Indian automaker.
Rounding out this ambitious plan, Mahindra is also developing a compact SUV, potentially a “baby Scorpio N,” and the urban-focused compact crossover inspired by the Vision X concept. This confirms that Mahindra intends to compete aggressively in every major SUV category, offering Indian consumers an unprecedented choice of powertrains and body styles.
