Get ready for a major comeback story. Renault has ended the speculation and officially confirmed that the beloved Duster nameplate will return to India, with a full unveiling scheduled for January 26, 2026. This isn’t just a nostalgic rehash; it marks the beginning of a significant new chapter for the French automaker in one of the world’s most competitive car markets.
The original Duster, which first hit Indian roads in 2012, wasn’t just another SUV—it was a game-changer. It brought a rugged, adventurous spirit to the midsize segment and quickly built a loyal following. Now, the new model aims to recapture that magic while stepping firmly into the modern era.
Stepping into a New Era with an Icon

The return of the Duster is a strategic move, serving as the flagship for Renault’s ambitious ‘International Game Plan 2027’. This roadmap signals a renewed commitment to India and promises a future lineup that includes a seven-seater SUV and an electric vehicle.
The Duster’s legacy is a tough one to ignore. In India alone, it won over 200,000 customers, with global sales approaching 1.8 million units. This deep-seated brand recognition gives it a powerful head start.
“The Renault Duster is more than just a name – it’s a true legend,” stated Stephane Deblaise, CEO of Renault Group India. “A symbol of adventure, reliability, and innovation, its comeback shows our commitment to the Indian market and our desire to offer vehicles that meet the evolving needs of our customers. The new Duster will rely on its iconic heritage while adopting a modern design, advanced technology, and enhanced performance.”
Designed to Compete in a Crowded Arena
The new Duster will re-enter a segment that has exploded in size and competition. Today, the space is dominated by the Hyundai Creta and features fierce rivals from nearly every major manufacturer, including Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Tata, Mahindra, and Volkswagen. This segment alone accounts for nearly a quarter of all passenger vehicle sales in India, making it a critical battleground.

To stand out, Renault is equipping the new Duster with a compelling package of style and substance. It will be built on a highly localized version of the CMF-B modular platform, which also underpins several of Renault’s global models, helping to optimize costs and ensure robust engineering. Production will be handled at the company’s established facility in Oragadam, near Chennai.
Inside, the cabin adopts a modern, driver-focused layout. Key features are set to include:
- A 10.1-inch OpenR infotainment screen with wireless smartphone connectivity.
- A 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
- A high centre console with an electronic shifter for automatic variants.
- Distinctive Y-shaped design elements on the air vents and door panels.
Comfort and convenience are boosted by offerings like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, multiple Type-C ports, and a 360-degree camera for easier maneuvering. On the safety front, the new Duster is expected to be well-appointed with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
While Renault is holding final powertrain details close to its chest, industry whispers suggest the new Duster will launch with turbocharged petrol engines, offering both manual and automatic gearbox options. A hybrid version is also reportedly being evaluated for a future introduction, aligning with the industry’s shift towards greater electrification.
The stage is set for an exciting showdown in the midsize SUV arena. With its confirmed launch date, the new Renault Duster is poised to rekindle old loyalties and win over a new generation of drivers.
