The roar of Lamborghini’s racing division is about to get louder. During the electrifying Lamborghini World Finals at the Misano World Circuit, the Italian marque pulled the covers off the Temerario Super Trofeo, a design concept that previews the car set to become the new backbone of its single-make racing series. This isn’t just a new model; it’s the dawn of a new era, officially marking the end of the Huracán’s legendary reign and the beginning of a turbocharged V8 future on tracks across Asia, Europe, and North America starting in 2027.

From Customer Demand to Track Dominance

The Temerario Super Trofeo represents a significant milestone as the sixth race car developed by Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse division. Its lineage traces back over a decade to the first Gallardo Super Trofeo, a car born from a clear demand from the brand’s passionate clients. As Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, explained, “While Lamborghini wasn’t founded as a racing brand, our customers have consistently asked for a purpose-built track product. More than 1,300 drivers have answered that call in our Super Trofeo championship.”

This new racer is directly derived from the Temerario GT3, which made its own spectacular debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and is scheduled for its first competitive outing at the 12 Hours of Sebring next March. This shared DNA ensures that the Super Trofeo version is born from proven competition hardware.

Performance and Engineering

At the core of the Temerario Super Trofeo is a formidable powerplant: a 650-horsepower, twin-turbocharged V8 engine. This is a focused, non-hybrid unit derived from the more complex 800hp hybrid powertrain found in the road-going Temerario. Stripped of hybrid components, this pure V8 is built for relentless track performance.

The powertrain is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox and channels its fury through a rear-wheel-drive system, a layout prized by drivers for its engaging and precise handling characteristics. The chassis, a hybrid of aluminium and carbon fibre, incorporates a full FIA-approved roll cage for safety. To make this beast accessible to drivers of varying skill levels, Lamborghini has equipped it with a sophisticated 12-stage traction control system and ABS braking, allowing for fine-tuning to different circuits and conditions.

According to Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, this driver-centric approach is paramount. “The Temerario Super Trofeo is the ultimate expression of our ‘fun-to-drive’ philosophy,” Mohr stated. “It is the pure racing evolution of the road-going Temerario.”

The car also continues Lamborghini’s key technical partnerships with industry leaders like Pertamina for lubricants, Capristo for exhaust systems, and KW for suspension. In a move that blends high performance with sustainability, the Temerario Super Trofeo’s interior will be the first to feature Dinamica Infinity, a revolutionary 100% recycled microsuede material.

The stage is now set for a thrilling transition. As the final Huracán Super Trofeo cars complete their final laps, the motorsport world eagerly awaits the track-debut of the Temerario, a car poised to write the next thrilling chapter in Lamborghini’s racing history.
