Mahindra Thar Rival Tata Scarlet SUV Launch Confirmed at Rs 15 Lakh

Tata Scarlet SUV Launch Confirmed at Rs 15 Lakh

Tata Motors might just be gearing up to shake the off-road SUV market. Last year, in 2024, reports surfaced about Tata potentially developing a robust 4X4 SUV to compete with the popular Mahindra Thar. While those were merely speculations at the time, fresh confirmations now suggest that Tata is indeed working on launching this exciting new SUV very soon. What’s even more thrilling? It’s expected to hit the market with a starting price of Rs 15 lakh.

Rs 15 Lakh Tata SUV – What You Need to Know

Codenamed Scarlet

Tata Motors is ready to rival Mahindra Thar with an all-new SUV, internally known as Scarlet. This upcoming SUV is a sub-4 meter model, comparable in length to the Tata Nexon. However, the new boxy design sets it apart by offering significantly more interior space.

Multiple Powertrain Options: ICE & EV

Just like the Nexon, this SUV will be available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric variants. Here’s a snapshot of what’s expected:

  • ICE Version: Likely underpinned by Tata’s Curvv ATLAS platform, paired with a robust 1.2L turbo-petrol engine sourced from the Nexon. Additionally, Curvv’s advanced 1.2L TGDI and an all-new 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine may be offered. However, there won’t be a diesel option for the ICE lineup.
  • EV Variant: Built on Tata’s Acti.ev platform, the electric version might support all-wheel drive (AWD), similar to the Harrier.ev. Tata’s Curvv.ev battery and motor setups are expected to power this eco-friendly option, offering an edge in the growing EV market.

Premium Features

The Scarlet SUV promises cutting-edge features and a high-end driving experience. Positioned as a premium sub-4 meter SUV, it will likely cost more than the Nexon but be priced strategically below the Tata Curvv.

Competitive Pricing & Market Appeal

Tata Motors aims to dominate the compact SUV segment, a market in which they have been highly successful with models like the Nexon and Punch. Scarlet’s pricing is expected to be aggressive, starting from Rs 15 lakh, which places it competitively against heavyweights like the Mahindra Thar and the Maruti Jimny.

With advanced features, a boxy design for extra space, and the potential addition of AWD in the electric variant, Tata’s Scarlet could redefine off-road SUV standards in India. Its launch is anticipated within this decade, further solidifying Tata’s position in the automotive market.
