Maruti Suzuki Tops June 2025 Sales | Hyundai & Tata Face YoY Decline

The Indian automotive landscape showcased mixed signals in June 2025. While retail sales climbed 2.45% year-on-year (YoY), they dipped 1.49% month-on-month (MoM). Here’s a closer look at how key players fared as reported by the Federation of Automotive Dealers Association (FADA).

Maruti Suzuki Retains Market Dominance in June 2025

Maruti Suzuki continues to rule the Indian auto market, selling 1,16,544 units in June 2025 compared to 1,15,919 units in June 2024. This incremental growth marks its steadfast grip with a commanding market share of 39.15%.

Trailing behind, Mahindra secured second place with 40,919 units sold, up from 36,741 units in June 2024. The upward momentum for Mahindra reflects strong customer demand for its well-received SUV lineup.

Hyundai & Tata Motors Witness YoY Declines

Not all brands saw growth. Hyundai’s retail sales slipped, recording 38,306 units in June 2025 compared to 39,201 last year. Likewise, Tata Motors’ sales fell from 38,157 units last June to 34,930 units. Despite this setback, Tata remains optimistic about its Scarlet sub-4-meter SUV and upcoming expansions planned through 2030, underscoring its long-term vision.

Toyota and Kia India Deliver Promising Results

Amid the mixed market performance, some brands stood out for their growth. Toyota registered notable improvement with 22,543 units sold, an increase from 19,531 units in June 2024, boosting its market share to 7.57%. Kia India followed suit, reporting 18,005 units in sales, up from 16,821 units YoY, reaffirming the increasing preference for its popular models.

The Luxury Car Market Experiences Growth

Luxury car brands, known for their niche appeal, showed positive trends in June 2025. Mercedes-Benz set the tone with sales climbing to 1,390 units from 1,214 last year. BMW India also saw progress, increasing its retail numbers to 1,202 compared to 1,058 in 2024.

Additionally, Skoda Auto outperformed with 7,661 units sold, a significant jump from last year’s 5,705 units. MG Motor also contributed to this segment’s growth, selling 4,954 units, up from 3,841 in June 2024.

Challenges Persist for Some Brands

While growth stories made headlines, some manufacturers faced hurdles. Honda’s sales dipped sharply to 3,859 units in June 2025 from 4,342 last year. Renault India also encountered setbacks, with sales declining substantially. Nissan failed to match its previous year’s sales, adding to the challenges in this segment.

However, brands like Jaguar and BYD India bucked the trend, managing to post growth despite headwinds, including strong rains limiting dealership footfalls and tightening liquidity impacting consumer spending.

Looking Ahead

June 2025 highlights the kaleidoscope of shifts in India’s automotive sector. While stalwarts like Maruti Suzuki strengthen their hold, brands like Tata and Hyundai must address declining sales. Meanwhile, robust performances by Toyota, Kia, and luxury brands underscore the industry’s evolving dynamics.

With new launches, such as Tata’s Scarlet and an expanding focus on premium models, the competition remains fierce. Continued customer demand for innovation will likely shape the market in the coming months.
