MG Electric Car Sales Hit 100,000 in India: A New Milestone for EVs

MG Electric Car Sales Hit 100,000

In a significant milestone for India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape, JSW MG Motor India has announced the sale of its 100,000th electric car. This achievement solidifies MG’s position as a major player in the country’s accelerating transition to electric mobility, making it only the second automaker after Tata Motors to reach this impressive figure.

MG’s electric journey in India began in early 2020 with the launch of the ZS EV, an all-electric SUV that introduced many Indian consumers to the concept of a long-range, feature-packed EV. For its first few years, the ZS EV carried the brand’s electric ambitions alone. The portfolio expanded in April 2023 with the compact and city-focused Comet EV, but it was the September 2024 launch of the Windsor—a direct rival to the popular Tata Nexon EV—that truly electrified MG’s sales figures. The subsequent introduction of the longer-range Windsor Pro in May 2025 further cemented the brand’s appeal to a broader audience.

The numbers tell a compelling story of rapid growth. From April to September 2025, MG delivered 26,640 electric vehicles to customers. This represents a staggering 220 percent year-on-year increase compared to the 8,329 units sold in the same period in 2024.

Perhaps the most telling statistic is the proportion of MG’s sales that are now fully electric. The company reports that EVs contribute to over 70 percent of its monthly sales, a clear indicator that electricity is now the lifeblood of its business in India. This sales mix has propelled MG to capture a 35 percent share of the entire Indian EV passenger car market.

Looking beyond volume, MG has also begun to signal its premium aspirations. Through its MG Select portfolio, the brand has introduced the eye-catching Cyberster electric roadster and the M9 MPV. While these higher-end models are not expected to be high-volume sellers, they serve a crucial purpose: showcasing MG’s technological capabilities and building a halo of desirability around the brand as it prepares for the next wave of electric innovation.

Reaching 100,000 EV sales is more than just a number; it’s a testament to a shifting market. MG’s journey from a single model in 2020 to a diverse lineup commanding a major market share highlights the growing consumer confidence in electric vehicles and the intense competition that is set to define the future of driving in India.
