Skoda Kodiaq Lounge Launched: A More Affordable 5-Seater SUV at 39.99 Lakh

Skoda Kodiaq Lounge - Affordable 5-Seater SUV

In a strategic move to make its flagship SUV more accessible, Skoda Auto India has unveiled a new entry-level variant of the Kodiaq. Dubbed the ‘Lounge’, this five-seater model arrives with an attractive ex-showroom price tag of ₹39.99 lakh, creating a more affordable gateway into the brand’s premium offerings.

Priced nearly ₹3.77 lakh below the mid-spec Sportline variant, the Kodiaq Lounge redefines the SUV’s starting point in the market. While it forgoes the seven-seat configuration and some high-end features, it retains the core powerful mechanics and sophisticated design that the model is known for.

Positioning and Price Advantage

The introduction of the Lounge variant establishes a new price architecture for the Kodiaq post the latest GST revisions. The full range now stands as follows:

  • Kodiaq Lounge: ₹39.99 lakh
  • Kodiaq Sportline: ₹43.76 lakh
  • Kodiaq Selection L&K: ₹45.96 lakh

This pricing positions the five-seater Kodiaq above rivals like the Citroën C5 Aircross (₹37.32 lakh) and the Hyundai Tucson (up to ₹33.64 lakh), but still comfortably below its corporate cousin, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, which commands ₹45.73 lakh.

Distinguishing the Lounge Variant

Skoda Kodiaq Lounge Cabin

The new Lounge trim is distinguished by several subtle yet noticeable changes. Externally, it rides on new-design 18-inch ‘Mazeno’ alloy wheels and is offered in a choice of three exterior shades: Moon White, Magic Black, and Graphite Grey. The more vibrant Race Blue and Velvet Red, along with exclusive shades like Steel Grey and Bronx Gold, are reserved for the higher variants.

The most significant change is inside, where the third row of seats has been removed. This decision transforms the utility of the vehicle, increasing boot capacity from a modest 281 litres to a massive 786 litres, making it exceptionally practical for families and long trips.

The interior ambiance is set with a grey faux-suede and fabric upholstery. The cabin is also marked by a distinctive two-spoke steering wheel, a departure from the three-spoke unit found in other variants. Crucially, Skoda has ensured that the comprehensive safety package remains identical across all trims.

Features: Premium, But Streamlined

In its pursuit of a lower price, the Lounge variant does omit some of the top-tier features found on the Sportline and L&K models. Instead of the large 12.9-inch touchscreen, it gets a still-generous 10.4-inch infotainment system. It also features a 100W, 9-speaker audio system instead of the premium 725W, 13-speaker Canton sound system. Additional features like gesture control for the powered tailgate and a 360-degree camera are not available on this base model.

Unchanged Performance

Where the Kodiaq Lounge does not compromise is under the hood. It is powered by the same robust 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine found across the range, producing a healthy 204hp. This engine is paired with a smooth 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels, ensuring the driving experience remains engaging and powerful, regardless of the variant.

For buyers seeking the commanding presence, solid build quality, and potent performance of the Skoda Kodiaq without the need for seven seats or every luxury bell and whistle, the new Lounge variant presents a compelling and value-driven proposition.
