In a significant move to bolster safety for Indian families, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that six airbags are now standard equipment across all variants of the Toyota Rumion MPV. This decision immediately elevates the vehicle’s safety profile in a competitive segment.
The updated Toyota Rumion is priced from Rs. 10.44 lakh to Rs. 13.62 lakh (ex-showroom). Since its launch over two years ago as a cousin to the popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Rumion has carved out its own niche under Toyota’s trusted badge, alongside other successful models like the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Performance and Powertrain

Under the hood, the Rumion continues to be powered by the dependable 1.5-litre K15C mild-hybrid petrol engine. This powertrain delivers a healthy 103 hp of power and 136.8 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a smooth five-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic torque converter. For those seeking even greater fuel efficiency, a CNG variant is available, producing 87.8 hp and 121.5 Nm, and is offered exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The emphasis on efficiency is a key selling point. Toyota claims an impressive fuel economy of 20.51 km/l for the manual, 20.11 km/l for the automatic, and 26.11 km/kg for the CNG model, making it an economically smart choice for large families.
Design and Premium Features

Built on the same robust and lightweight Heartect platform as its sibling, the Rumion distinguishes itself with a unique Toyota-specific design language. The front fascia features a bold grille with chrome accents and black hexagonal patterns, complemented by sleek fog lamp housings and stylish 15-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the focus is on space, comfort, and connectivity. The seven-seater cabin is thoughtfully designed with 60:40 split-folding second-row seats for flexibility, and dedicated AC vents for both the second and third rows to ensure passenger comfort. Tech-savvy buyers will appreciate Toyota’s i-Connect system, which offers smartwatch compatibility, voice commands, and remote vehicle controls. Other notable features include a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a multi-function steering wheel.
With the standardization of six airbags, the Toyota Rumion now presents a more compelling package than ever. It combines Toyota’s reputation for reliability with enhanced safety, strong fuel economy, and a host of family-friendly features, solidifying its position as a serious contender in the MPV market.
