Yamaha FZ-Rave Launched: Aggressive Styling & 149cc Power

Yamaha has just injected fresh energy into India’s competitive motorcycle market with the introduction of the FZ-Rave. Priced at an ex-showroom figure of ₹1,17,218 (Delhi), this new model aims to capture the attention of riders looking for a blend of aggressive street presence and trusted FZ performance.

Stepping away from the ordinary, the FZ-Rave makes its first impression with a bold design language. The front is dominated by a sharp, full-LED projector headlamp that incorporates an integrated position light, giving the bike a modern and focused face. The muscular silhouette is accentuated by a sculpted fuel tank with cosmetic vents, leading to a compact exhaust and a sleek tail section that completes the sporty profile. Buyers can choose between two understated yet premium shades: Matte Titan and Metallic Black.

Yamaha FZ-Rave engine

At the heart of the FZ-Rave beats a familiar 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This fuel-injected powerplant is known for its reliable and efficient performance, churning out 12.4 PS of power and 13.3 Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheel via a smooth five-speed gearbox. Yamaha has tuned this engine for a balance of responsive city riding and impressive fuel economy. Keeping up with future fuel standards, the engine is also compatible with E20 fuel.

The riding experience is built on a solid foundation. A diamond-type frame provides the chassis rigidity, suspended by a telescopic fork up front and a swingarm at the rear. Bringing the bike to a confident halt are hydraulic disc brakes on both wheels, with the added safety net of a single-channel ABS. The FZ-Rave rides on a 17-inch wheel setup with tubeless tyres—a 100/80 section at the front and a wider 140/60 at the rear—promising good grip and stability.

Key dimensions include a 790 mm seat height, which should be accessible for a wide range of riders, and a 165 mm ground clearance that is well-suited for navigating Indian road conditions. Despite its robust look, the motorcycle maintains a manageable kerb weight of 136 kg and carries its fuel in a 13-litre tank.

Modern features include a digital instrument cluster that provides all essential information like speed, RPM, fuel level, and a clock. The commitment to contemporary tech is further seen in the full-LED lighting, standard electric start, and a reliable 12V battery system.

The launch of the FZ-Rave significantly broadens Yamaha’s FZ family, a lineup that has already found homes with over 2.75 million riders in India. It shared the spotlight with other new-generation models like the retro-inspired XSR 155 and Yamaha’s electric scooter concepts, the EC-06 and Aerox-E, signaling a comprehensive and evolving strategy for the brand.
